Twitter is one of the most used social media websites today. People today don't think to backup their tweets as tweets are neither personal, nor they have any sentimental or business value like data shared on Facebook or Google. But sometimes people like to see an old tweet to revive an old memory and for that scrolling through twitter API isn't  a good idea. Here the need to backup your twitter data arises. To backup twitter data you need to follow very easy steps.

To request your archive do this :-
  • Simply go to Twitter and Log In.
  • After Log In click on the gear icon on the top right corner of the menu left to the "Compose new Tweet" button.
  • In the drop-down menu click on settings.
  • After clicking on the settings button a new page will open.
  • On the new page click on account button below your profile picture at left hand side if the account tab is not already opened.
  • On the account page scroll down and click on "Request your archive" button.
  • Press "close" button when Pop up menu appears.
  • After some time when your archive is ready a link will be sent to your registered email ID by twitter.
  • Go to this link in the e-mail.
  • You will move back to Twitter.
  • Click on "Download" to start downloading your data which will be in a .zip format.
After downloading your backup zip, unzip it. There will be a bunch of files and folders and to view your information in the best way open the "index.html" file. Click open again if you receive a warning message from your browser. It contains a copy of your tweets in CSV format which can be very useful for further analysis as it contains meta data of each tweet. It also contains your tweet history in .JSON format which is useful for developers. For further information you can read the "README.txt" which comes with your archive.
